AI and Web3 are changing industries, creating new opportunities, and bringing fresh challenges. This powerful combination is shaping the future, with both exciting possibilities and important issues to consider. At the Blockchain Futurist Conference , a panel titled “AI and Web3: Building a Decentralized Intelligent Future – The Good, The Bad, and The Potential” sparked an exciting discussion on how artificial intelligence (AI) and Web3 are coming together to transform industries, create new opportunities, and present both challenges and breakthroughs.
The panel featured top experts including:
• 🚀Renato Capelj, Managing Director of Benzinga
• 🚀 Christopher “CJ” Johnson, Developer of @badideaai and President of Lightspeed Crypto Services, LLC
• 🚀 Shingai Manjengwa, Head of AI Education at @TheoriqAI
•🚀 Jason Dominique, Co-founder & CEO of @onchainlabs
• 🚀 Liza Horowitz, COO of @SophiaVerse_AI
Each speaker shared their unique perspective on the growing relationship between AI and blockchain technologies, discussing how these advancements are reshaping the digital landscape.
AI and Web3: A Powerful Pairing
Shingai Manjengwa started the conversation by emphasizing that the combination of AI and Web3 is is like a happy marriage of two powerful technologies. She pointed out that both are rapidly advancing and solving real-world problems. Shingai mentioned projects like Derrick.ai, which is developing AI agents for public testing, and her own platform, Theorik, which supports developers in creating decentralized AI agents.
Jason Dominique expanded on this by discussing the potential of AI to improve payment systems. He explained that by combining blockchain with AI agents, many traditional payment steps—such as signature verification and authorization—can be automated, making the process faster and more efficient. As Dominique put it, “Anything that can abstract friction in transactions is a game-changer.”
Overcoming Challenges in Decentralized Systems
The panel also addressed the difficulties of integrating AI into decentralized environments like the metaverse. Lisa Horowitz shared her experience at Sophiaverse, where AI-powered characters are trained to interact with users in multiplayer environments. She explained that creating natural conversations and smooth interactions between these characters is still a work in progress. “When you have conversations in the metaverse, it’s not just about the avatars but how the AI agents react—who speaks first, how dialogue flows,” Horowitz said.
Horowitz added that Sophiaverse serves as both a training ground and a game, where developers can experiment with AI agents in a simulated decentralized environment. This approach allows for hands-on learning while addressing real-world challenges in agent behavior and governance.
Opening Doors for New Developers
Christopher Johnson discussed how the combination of AI and Web3 is making it easier for new developers, not just experts, to create innovative projects. Decentralized AI tools lower the barriers to entry, giving beginners the chance to build something new. “This democratization of development is both an opportunity and a threat,” Johnson said, highlighting that while it sparks creativity, it also pushes traditional developers to keep up with the changing landscape.
He encouraged developers to embrace these new tools and help make them accessible to everyone. “The more accessible these technologies become, the more innovation we’ll see across industries,” he said.
Balancing Centralization and Decentralization
One key topic was the challenge of balancing AI’s traditionally centralized nature with the decentralized principles of Web3. Shingai Manjengwa noted that while AI has relied on centralized systems for computation, Web3’s decentralized approach could offer a more ethical and secure way to develop AI. “Decentralization in Web3 offers a new framework for ethical, transparent, and secure AI development,” she said.
By using blockchain’s secure, decentralized network, AI systems can become more reliable and trustworthy. Manjengwa gave the example of Theorik’s governance system, where decentralized systems oversee AI agents to ensure fairness.
Jason Dominique added that decentralized blockchain networks could help prevent AI systems from being controlled by one central authority, reducing the risks of bias or misuse. “With decentralized networks, we can make sure AI-driven processes aren’t controlled by a single entity,” he said.
The Future: A Decentralized, Smarter World
The panel wrapped up with a discussion on the future of AI and Web3. Although these technologies are still in their early stages, they have the potential to transform many industries, from finance to gaming. The panelists agreed that collaboration, innovation, and ethical development will be key to unlocking their full potential.
As Christopher Johnson summed it up, “The development of AI and Web3 is no longer about asking these technologies what to do—it’s about partnering with them to achieve what was previously unimaginable.”
The Blockchain Futurist Conference reminded us that we are only at the beginning of this transformative journey, and the best is yet to come. As AI and Web3 grow together, they have the power to unlock a decentralized, intelligent future that we can only begin to imagine.
